Hi, I’m John Mischke. I started this tutoring service for people like you—curious, thoughtful adults who have the time to explore big ideas that have shaped human thought for thousands of years.
I’ve spend the past 20 years teaching philosophy to students of all ages and backgrounds, including many adult learners. I’ve taught at community colleges and universities on both coasts—including George Washington University and the University of San Francisco—and have guided thousands of students through the great questions of life, ethics, politics, and beliefs.
I hold a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Maryland and a M.A. in Classics from St. John’s College in Annapolis, a school known for its focus on reading and discussing classic texts. That’s exactly the approach I bring to these one-on-one sessions: we’ll read original works by major thinkers—Plato, Confucius, Rousseau, the Bhagavad Gita, and many others—and talk through them together. You don’t need any prior experience in philosophy—just a willingness to ask questions and think deeply.
As a stay-at-home dad, I know the value of daytime flexibility and the joy of reconnecting with your own intellectual life. These sessions are designed to fit your schedule and your pace—whether your’e newly retired, balancing parenting with personal growth, or simply ready to explore the ideas that matter most.
No tests, no pressure—just great books, big questions, real conversation, and most of all, fun!
